Short Facts – Furniture market in Turkey

Due to a research of the turkish furniture store „Furniture from Turkey“ in March 2012:

  • furniture market became a more important and dynamic sector in Turkey
  • centers are Istanbul, Ankara, Bursa (Inegöl), Kayseri and Izmir
  • international success according to high quality (predominant wooden furniture), traditional design and technical characteristics
  • 2008 increase in export of 29% (1.331 Billion US-Dollar)
  • main consumer are Germany, Iraq, France, Iran, Greece an Great Britain
  • market share in Italy, Germany an China (gobal superpowers in furniture sector)
  • population 2014: approx. 77.7 Mio. inhabitants, average age 30,4 years! (referred to Department of Foreign Affairs in Germany) leads to high industrial potential

The above mentioned furniture store quoted the trade association of furniture manufacturer MOSDER in August 2012:

  • from 2008 until 2011 the consum of furniture raised by approx. 28,6% to 9 Billion US-Dollar

MOSDER in February 2013:

  • over the next 5 years Turkey will become one of the ten biggest furniture exporter in the world – the association reckons with continuing upward trend
  • requested export volume to 2023 of 10 Billion US-Dollar, referred to MOSDER president Ahmet Gülec
  • exports in first term 2012 increased by 17,6% to 885.5 Billion US-Dollar compared to same term in previous year
  • total exports in 2011 of 1.607.40 Million US-Dollar – increase of 18% compared to previous year
  • main consumer in first term 2012 was Iraq, followed by Germany and Lybia
  • important business platform is the furniture fair Istanbul Mobile Fuari (IMOB): 2012 there have been closed 20% of the business contracts
  • number of medium-sized and big companies raises (2013 nearly 62.000 registered furniture companies)
  • 500.000 employees
  • furniture sale is carried out increasingly by modern retail sale and by furniture houses in the  catchment area of bigger cities
    According to TUIK (Turkish Agency of Statistics):
  • export in 173 countries on 5 continents
  • raise of export from 2003 till 2011 by over 292%
