Opportunities of digitisation for software companies and users

What opportunities does digitization offer for the future orientation of a company in the 21st century? Accelerated by the current situation, digitization offers numerous advantages such as streamlining of processes, automation of procedures and the use of new technologies.

Regardless of the industry and size of a company, the opportunities can be explained primarily by the increase in competitiveness and turnover.

With this strategic goal in mind, decision-makers in companies around the world are confronted with the challenge. Those who recognize the potential of digitization for their company can react more flexibly to the dynamic change processes of a global economy and thus achieve the desired goals more quickly.

While the concentration of previous optimization approaches in the area of Business Intelligence (BI) and transparency in companies could be seen, the view is shifting more and more to the use of information, optimization of processes and the use of mobile information systems. Thus, the “application” of the previous knowledge takes place.

Many companies in various industries are increasingly realizing that a static software framework does not always fully reflect the processes of a company, as there are limits to flexibility and creativity. Therefore it would be desirable to bring software and business development together in order to develop agile models on both sides, which can also reflect change processes as well as market influences within a company and thus represent an added value.

On the part of the user, the know-how of the specific procedures must be brought in to define the processes within the company. Modular components in cooperation with modelled processes are already resulting in more and more tailor-made software support for companies under a “NoCode approach” (software development without programming).

The use of mobile solutions as well as network technology and availability of the Internet make the processes even more flexible and bring information to the place of origin/use. This results in completely new processes which can eliminate or at least accelerate the processing of process steps.

Some software companies have recognized this trend and are already examining or using the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for the creation of software or dynamic adaptation to customer processes. Artificial intelligence in the sense of also self-learning systems, which both recognize the process chains that frequently take place and optimize them, or in a simpler first step change the GUI (Graphical User Interface) to the requirements of the user, bring an enormous additional benefit for the creator of the software (resource conservation) as well as for the user (cost and flexibility advantages). Both topics shift the transfer of knowledge about interrelationships from development departments to companies that use them. No pre-conceived process has to be fulfilled or cost-intensively individualized, but the software serves the company according to the individual requirements. In the long run this leads to a different profile of the employees of company-owned IT departments, who have to bring along process knowledge and object-oriented thinking in order to be able to identify problems that might arise or to raise further benefit potential.

Parallel to this complex of self-developing software, individual AI functions are certainly already available today, which provide information for decision-making in the company from the enormous data volumes of the companies and from third-party sources. These AI models represent an ever-increasing benefit for software companies in the marketing of the software, as the benefits are perceived more and more consciously by end users.

As a result, companies achieve more dynamic strategic objectives: increased sales, reduced costs and improved service.
